This Leadership question is often followed with the “I’m a leader” answer but the real truth is that leadership is both. A true leader knows when to lead and when to follow. A true leader has a certain discernment that allows him or her an intuitive perspective.
Are you the leader that will do great things and help people succeed in this new economy? Does your leadership rival others? Do people want to work with you because you are the leader they trust and want to follow?
Answer these 7 questions and grade yourself on your leadership abilities
In your leadership style, do you use “Possibility Thinking”?
I am open to possibilities and listen to my team’s ideas, concerns, problems and intuition. I utilize my leadership and their input to help me with my decision making. When seeking solutions, I invite others ideas, leadership and perspectives to the table. I understand that 2 heads are better than one when solution seeking.
Grade yourself on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being highest.)
Do you lead by example?
I enjoy working as hard if not harder than my team. I make sure that I demonstrate my willingness to see our team achieve our goals. I set the example of our work ethic in our department so that my team knows I too am a team player. Grade yourself on a scale of 1 to 10
Do you have strong Self-Command?
I don’t let outside things, such as, news and challenges determine my feelings, leadership or actions. I tell myself uplifting, miraculous and empowering thoughts everyday. I determine how I feel not anyone else. I monitor my state and attitude daily. I do not involve myself with people who complain or gossip about others. Grade yourself on a scale of 1 to 10
Do you listen and observe without judgment?
I listen to my team without a conversation going on in my head about what I think and whether I think they are worth listening to. My leadership doesn’t judge them. I ask questions to help me understand what they want and what they need. I offer suggestions to help them find solutions. Grade yourself on a scale of 1-10
Do you look for opportunities to praise your team?
I spend more leadership time looking at what my team does correctly then I do looking for what they do incorrectly. I congratulate them and tell them that I am proud of the work they produce. I make certain my team knows that their contribution is valuable. I look for opportunities that allow a worker to feel proud and important. Grade yourself on a scale of 1 to 10
Are you ethical 100 percent of the time?
In my leadership I understand that in order for my team to trust me, I must be ethical with them. I do not lie to them. I do not steal their ideas and call them mine. I do not sabotage their work efforts. I give them the tools they need to succeed at their task. Grade yourself on a scale of 1 to 10
Do you have an open door policy?
In my leadership my team has access to me everyday. My team knows they can come to my office and speak with me during work hours and I will help them find solutions to their concerns.
Total your score. 7 will be the lowest score and 70 will be the highest score. You can look at this and determine where you would like to improve your leadership skills.
Leadership now is one of the most important aspects of our new economy. Because we have had some unethical leader’s damage confidence in leadership, you will need to be even better and more aware. Your team will be watching you closely. Earning their confidence in the aftermath of the current leadership debacle will be tougher than normal.
Yet, I have a challenge for you. Are you really interested in becoming the best leader you can be? Is leadership as a skill set truly important to you? Great! Then give this test to your team. Let them anonymously grade your abilities and offer suggestions. Then you can evaluate where you would like to improve.
